ON my current windows box, I just use meevee.com to get the tv listing and then there is a scheduling program that allows me to set the file name to record to, start stop time and the like. It then transforms my recodring option to a Schedule task with command line options to their.

I not that well with linux, but can I assume I could do the same thing here. I dont mind writing a java/c++ program that will take in the times and make a cron job to start and finish the recording.

If you're -really- cheap, there's this: http://zap2xml.110mb.com/

It's a perl script which slurps the HTML listings from zap2it.com, which
is still free, and converts it to XMLTV format. A friend of mine has had
some success running it (he said that a few channels were missing, for
some reason, but generally it worked.)

Probably less hassle giving out your 20 bucks to Schedules Direct, though.
