I use the same wireless card under debian. Although I compile my own kernels so
it makes the setup a bit different.
Intel has released 2 drivers for this chipset, ipw3945[1] which works well but
is a bit nasty (becaused of the closed source daemon which is also part of
debian [2]). The other driver is called iwlwifi[3] last time I tried this one (6
months ago) it was a bit touchy. I'll try out this driver and let you know how
well it works before the install-fest. The iwlwifi driver also seems to be part
of debian although testing and unstable only [4].
All in all I can definitely get this wireless card working on your laptop.
