Hello all!

The meeting on Friday went quite well. The major topics discussed were:

1) New home

The new LUGSB website URL is: http://www.lugsb.cs.sunysb.edu
The new IRC channel is #lugsb at chat.freenode.org
The mailing list is at the same place provided to us by the File
	system and Storage Lab (http://www.fsl.cs.sunysb.edu).

2) Elections

I think that it would be a good idea to have elections next time
we meet (Tuesday April 4th at 8pm.)

Out of the 4 standard positions, three are needed (as I have
mentioned during the meeting, we can be pretty certain that we
won't have a budget to worry about ergo there is not need for a
tresurer - at this moment,) but having a tresurer set out to get
money for the club would be a Good Thing(tm) - there are plenty
of places where you can get money for promoting whatever they
	like (eg. Linux)

3) ICON (March 24th - 26th -- yes that's in less than a week)

We're going to be participating in about 2 panels - I am not
certain which ones they are, and an installathon. I wasn't sent
any details yet so I can't really say more than that.

At the meeting, we came up with several things which we want to
	do for the installathon:

	a) Decide which distros to provide - we came up with:
		i)	Debian (we have a full mirror on campus)
		ii)	Ubuntu (version?)
		iii)	Fedora Core (version?)
iv)	Knoppix (version 5.0 I assume)
	b) Have some blank CD-Rs
	c) extension cables/splitters
	d) networking equipment (hubs/switches/cables)
	e) anything else?

4) Ottawa Linux Symposium (http://www.linuxsymposium.org/2006/)

First of all, "the Linux Symposium is a core technology
conference, targeting software developers working on the Linux
kernel, OS infrastructure, security, networking, and related
	research projects."

It is an interesting conference where you get to listen to
presentations about all sort of interesting Linux related
topics. The File systems and Storage Lab will be presenting
about Unionfs. [1] Come and cheer for your favorite school ;)
(See also the thread from February [2] and [3].)

Additionally, OLS is running an essay contest this year [4]. If
you are a registered attendee, you can write up to 1500 word
essay about Linux and you can win an Intel Centrino Duo laptop
(first prize) or iPod Nano (second prize.)

5) Promoting the club/Linux

	Two ideas came up:

	a) Building something (eg. Linux kiosk)
	b) Inviting someone in power to our meetings
This is the "cheaper" of the two, and it might get more
accomplished since when someone in power decides
something, it happens. Inviting someone for a meeting of
course means what we need to have a nice solid meeting
which will allow whoever to see the benefit of Linux
		and/or Open Source/Free Software.

6) Next meeting

Next meeting will be on April 4th at 8pm. Ilya Sukhanov will be
presenting about how to get AirNet [5] working in Linux.

It is quite possible that I omitted something, if you see something
missing please add it. :)

Thanks everyone,

Josef 'Jeff' Sipek
